This morning a special guest knocked on my window. Since she had traveled a long way, she preferred to maintain a safe distance and we spoke standing on either side of the window.

She started narrating her story of resilience while I sipped my ginger tea.

It goes like this:

I have not seen my parents. The only memory of my childhood is falling from the mountain top as a streamlet. Since the mountain was so high, going back home was beyond my capacity. I decided to move on and check if anyone can help me reunite with my family. I met a few more streamlets on my way and together, we started our journey. It was so magical to see my banks becoming lush green. Birds, squirrels, monkeys, chameleons, tree frogs all chattering and playing in the canopy was a pleasant sight.

As I was freely flowing, a few rocks obstructed my way, but when my gentle caress made them glossy, they thanked me and bid good luck for my voyage.

I was more than happy to take all those left alone streams as part of me. They gave me more power to fulfill my purpose. On our way, a few people worshipped me as Goddess, a few others threw carcasses and corpses at me. While I rejoiced the obeisance offered by the few with fragrant flowers, a spurt of sewage fell on my smiling face. By the time, I shook myself of the filth, others pierced my tender body and pumped in industrial waste so that it will go unnoticed.

You know, I am quite accommodating and wouldn’t have worried about it. But then I am responsible/obliged to quench the thirst of many on my way. I am moving with a greater purpose that, I cannot waste my time in lamenting on these hassles.

Is my vision impaired suddenly that it makes me unable to see my way forward? Adjusting the vision by scratching my eyes, I looked ahead. A few trees have grown on the way where the sand bed is being wiped off. Meters away, the same sand has metamorphosed into a few skyscrapers. To my dismay, someone threw a few empty water bottles out of their window. With great difficulty, I continued my journey through the narrowing route. Unexpectedly, I experienced a sudden thrust. Heavy rain has caused some reservoirs to release their pressure. Some large streams also found their way to join me. I became ecstatic with my increased strength. My happiness didn’t stay long; I had to literally hit the walls of a few buildings to move ahead. I became breathless. I was choking, my body wobbled. I was no longer able to hold my power. My heart broke, I was spreading all over. People cursed me for ruining their belongings. I felt sad. I decided to end my life in the depth of the ocean.

The ocean greeted me with open arms. She was so kind in cleaning all the smudges and purifying everything which I carried. My joy knew no bounds. I felt light and relieved.

While I was dancing along with the sea waves out of happiness, the Sun winked at me and said that I need to join the cloud to serve another purpose. Without hesitating, I agreed. In fact, I had the desire to see the plains through which I had flowed, one more time. I realized that, painful memories will turn to stories of resilience later.

Gliding along with the mother cloud in the vast sky, I looked down at the riverbank. The blossomed trees and colorful birds gave a heavenly feel to the surrounding with the symphony of chitters.

I became ecstatic. An overflowing pride filled my heart which made the cloud heavy and I fell to earth once again.

The raindrop took a deep sigh and continued.

I am happy that I got another opportunity to make my life purposeful by serving life on earth. Every time, I am attacked or cursed, I accept them since I don’t know any other way. I don’t carry the disgust with me since I know only pureness.

The raindrop on my window glass reminded me of a crystal-clear diamond. I wanted to assure her that, we would be mindful of our interactions with nature. A teardrop rolled off my eyes and by the time I could wipe it off and utter a word in gratitude, she had set out on her voyage with a higher purpose.
